Japanese skincare that you can't liv without
Hi skin besties! I'm going to Japan next week and would love to hear your fave Jproducts. I've been familiar with famous ones and would love to know more especially those underrated ones. Makeup stuff recommendations are good too. I'm not good yet but trying to learn. I don't usually go out unless on a trip abroad or on required work or fam parties (30s lazy, homebody, with PCOS/PMOS and Eczema trying to avoid the sun, inflammation, and irritation outside 🤣)
Thanks 😍

🛍️ Japan Drugstore Shopping List: Clear Skin + Glass Glow • Melano CC Vitamin C Essence: Fades hormonal dark spots and stops acne bacteria while leaving a bright, uniform glow. • Ihada Acne Cure Cream: Gently targets painful, deep hormonal breakouts and goes on completely clear under your hydration layers. • Curel Sebum Trouble Care Lotion: Controls excess oil spikes while delivering a weightless, pore-safe watery bounce. • Nameraka Honpo Soy Milk Lotion: Uses fermented soy isoflavones to soothe irritation and plump your skin for a translucent finish. Those are my two cents 😄
Here are my ultimate must-grabs (and things that cost a fortune to import so grab them there for cheap!): Curél Deep Moisture Spray (Ceramide Mist) 💧 If you have eczema or skin that flares easily, BUY THIS IN BULK. It uses micro-ceramide technology to replenish intercellular lipids in a super fine, weightless cloud. It instantly soothes tightness and heat without having to rub an irritated face. It's expensive to import, but very reasonably priced in local drugstores! Minon Amino Moist (The Mask & Lotion Line) 🧬 Specifically formulated for hypersensitive, eczema-prone skin barriers. Their sheet masks and milky lotions are packed with 9 amino acids to rebuild Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF) with zero fragrance. Pure skin comfort. Bioré UV Aqua Protect Mist ☀️ The non-aerosol pump mist. It sets into a light, water-like UV film without feeling sticky or suffocating. Perfect for quick touch-ups on the go without disturbing anything underneath (just hold your breath while spritzing!). Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioner 🌾 A huge classic. It comes in a giant 500ml bottle for pennies. Great to decant into a spray bottle for an all-over face and body hydration layer right out of the shower.
Fellow PMOS house goblin! I have no recommendations yet so I'm here to eavesdrop. @Mariacasino How does the Curél spray compare to the mist that you're trialing for CYoung?
@hazelmoss They are completely different planets! 🪐 Look at the INCIs side by side: Curél Deep Moisture Spray: Pure physiological barrier defense. It’s built around Cetyl-PG Hydroxyethyl Palmitamide (Kao’s patented pseudo-ceramide) and Cholesterol, delivered in a pressurized aerosol that creates an ultra-fine, microscopic cloud. Zero fragrance, zero fluff. I loved using it in hot weather/vacation because it gives clean, non-greasy lipid replenishment without feeling heavy or suffocating. It’s like a more sophisticated, micro-atomized cousin of the Naturie Hatomugi that I keep sponsoring 😅 calming, unfragranced, and strictly restorative. Skin52&Co Collagen Mist: This is not a barrier-comfort mist; it’s an active treatment. The base is driven by Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, Hydrolyzed Starfish Extract, EGF (sh-Oligopeptide-1), and Protease (an enzymatic exfoliator). It also has added fragrance and alcohol lower down. It’s aimed at cellular renewal, elasticity, and subtle enzymatic refining rather than pure barrier shielding. If your barrier is raw or reacting, Curél is the safe harbor, whereas Skin52 is more of a targeted treatment step when your skin is healthy.
@Mariacasino Thank you for explaining that so well. I have such a rudimentary understanding still that I see "moisture" and "collagen" and my brain sees more similarity than difference. Even reading INCI lists I don't really understand what each ingredient does and the information given on skincare websites just describes them in isolation, not how they play.
I’ve been curious about Japanese skin care products but then I remember they use alcohol in their products and then it passes. For example, their Biore sunscreen sounded perfect til I read the ingredients list 🥴
@Paul honestly, whats crazy is i have eczema and am using tret but biore sunscreen never gave me skin issues, though if it gets into your eyes, thats a different level of sting.
@Paul Totally get the hesitation seeing Ethanol right at the top! But if I'm not wrong it's really a choice driven by climate: In East Asia, summers have brutal, near-100% humidity where sweat and creams physically cannot evaporate off your skin. So they use high ethanol so the mist flash-dries instantly. In drier climates, air already evaporates moisture fast, so you don't need alcohol to force that dry-down... and the rapid evaporation can actually dehydrate sensitive skin. I see the difference on my own skin, I need to use different products (not just different SPF) in different parts of the world 😅🌍🌎
@Mariacasino Oh, thank you for breaking it down and explaining it to us. I did not take that into consideration. That’s what I am doing, trying out different SPFs and I am on sunscreens #4 and 5 right now. I always have that Chillab - lavender solid powder to cover up for special occasions but a good fit for matte-finish sunscreen would be so much better
kiss me mommy sunscreen, blue variant of biore sunscreen and the lululun sheetmasks(you need to get the bulk pack that contains like 30sheets). muji has great skin booster too.
@MangoShake you are right I forgot the lululun sheet masks! I loved them 💜
I’ll have to come back to this but I wanted to comment before I forget lol I used to live in Japan but back then I was a broke college student so I wasn’t using anything besides face wash and I was only using what I could afford lol
That's so cool that you studied in Japan!
@hazelmoss I miss it so much
If you’re a homebody, Don Quijote might be your worst nightmare😭 It’s SO loud, packed with people, and products are piled everywhere. I wanted to escape after a few minutes! 😭 If you’re in a big city, I recommend @cosme instead. It’s much more comfortable, and you can easily find Japan’s top-ranked products! https://youtu.be/Ws6xXBa7BPI?si=s5bBHLJD1DODEyqI Check out my recent video for reviews. Japanese toners and my S-tier cleansing oilare worth buying, and Canmake blushes are affordable and good! ❤️
I was just browsing Canmake blushes! The cream compacts have beautiful shades.
@CYoung I agree. Donki is a place I would stay clear of!
Omggggg @CYoung 😍😍😍 Thank you! Oh I've recently rewatched this 😆 of course I'm always updated with your videos (필리핀 제일 팬 🤭) I've already listed these products on my notes to buy hahahahaha I haven't visited Cosme yet even in Tokyo. I will be in Osaka, I think it's time to try it this time since Cyoung nim recommended it 💖 See you next year in Korea ^^ If you want some Filipino products to test, let me know. I'll bring some omiyage 🥰 Btw, thank you for the tester program! I'm loving the community here and the products. I super love the Skin52 Collagen Glow Mist! I never knew I needed a mist 💖 It didn't dry me out even after swimming and fixed my issue witg dry patches when doing makeup 🥰 감사합니당
@hazelmoss I wanted to get the pink one but I got so tan from swimming 🥲
Of all the places I miss in Japan, DonQui is at the top! It can be very overwhelming and the jingle gets stuck in your head like an ear worm but it has everything you need and everything you didn’t know you needed lol I used to spend way too much time (and yen) in there 😂
I love cruel
I like a cleanser named No foundation Pelican soap. It says "soap" but it's quite mild and lasts for a long time (it's a bar), I have delicate skin and I could use it every day without any problems.
