Do you recommend a shower filter?
I’ve considered getting a shower filter for my sensitive skin. I wash my hair using only distilled water and I’ve noticed a HUGE difference in the look and feeling of my hair so I can only imagine how much better it would be for my face. I tell myself to use distilled water on my face too but I either forget or get lazy when in the shower. Does anyone use a shower/sink filter and if so, which one?
OR, do you consider a filter a waste of money? I want to hear it all, the good, the bad, the recommendations either way.

Having psoriasis, rosacea, intermittent eczema, and fine-sparse curly hair, I do not consider a shower filter a waste of money at all. In fact, I can feel it on my skin and hair when the filter needs to be changed. The water leaves a film on my body and more deposits on my scalp. We have very hard water in my area. The chemicals and minerals can get into our skin barrier while its wet and cause havoc. I've used several brands over time. Does any one brand stand out? No. The biggest considerations, in my opinion, are: 1. What model size/shape will fit your shower stall -- I bought a model once that had to be attached a certain way and it made the shower head much higher than usual. Not a major catastrophe, just annoying. 2. What you're willing to pay for the model and to replace the filters -- and know that because of sensitive skin you will need to change filters more often than recommended. 3. Also, many filters have plastic housing that ends up falling apart over time or O-rings that lose their elasticity. The pieces can't be replaced easily. So, in addition to purchasing filters, you may also be replacing the entire unit every couple of years unless you go with a high end model with durable components.
All wonderful pieces of advice thank you so much! I will be keeping all of this in mind as I do more research on what filter is best for me and my shower!
My recommendation would be to first check your local municipalities annual water quality report. This will give you details on how soft or hard your tap water is and a breakdown of all detected mineral levels. This information can help you figure out what kind or the strength of a filter you might want.
This is so smart thank you for suggesting this! I’ll be sure to do this before I commit to a filter
My husband picked up an inexpensive filter at Lowes. It definitely helped me rid and/or subside hard water issues( dry hair, itchy scalp, itchy skin, breakouts).
Thank you! This is very good to know that it made a difference and can be purchased locally. So many filters come up as online only and very expensive
@Sora no problem. We are a community here to help each other. Have a wonderful day.
Sometimes I go on YesStyle and browse devices and tools (like I need more of those wrist guards for washing my face!) And stumbled across this interesting shower head that is both a filter and a skincare device. I'm curious if it would stand up to daily use, but Iike the idea of a traveling filter set because hotel water always kills my face and hair. 🛍️ ClearDea - Glow On And On Ampoule Shower Set.
