๐ŸŒฟ TCM Gua Sha (ๅˆฎ็—ง)

What is Traditional TCM Gua Sha (ๅˆฎ็—ง)?

To truly understand this therapy, we have to look at the literal meaning of the Chinese characters:ๅˆฎ (Gua): To scrape, brush, or stroke.
็—ง (Sha): Sand-like red marks, a temporary skin rash, or the manifestation of stagnation rising to the surface.
In TCM philosophy, a healthy body relies on the smooth, uninterrupted flow of vital life force energy (ๆฐ” / Qi) and blood (่ก€ / Xue).
When you experience physical injury, emotional stress, or poor posture, this flow stagnates. This stagnation creates blockages along your body's energy pathways, known as meridians (็ป็ปœ).
TCM teaches that where there is stagnation, there is pain. By physically scraping the skin with a smooth-edged tool, a practitioner breaks up this stuck energy and coaxes stagnant blood out of the deep tissues to the surface, allowing your body to naturally flush it away and heal itself.
