Skin Q&A

BoJ eye serum for face?

Hii, can I use Beauty of Joseon eye serum (it has retinal %0.02 and ginseng) for my face instead of strong retinal or not-that-strong retinol?

Yes you can, in fact, lots of people do this even though it is formulated for your eyes. Have you looked into the BOJ - Revive Firming Moisturizer, it has 2% retinal? I noticed you mentioned closed comodones, what type of skin do you have, I am resilient, oily usually but combination-oily depending on the weather. Make sure you patch test first!

@Paul I think i have sensitive -not that much tho- combination skin but more to the dry side. (sorry english is not my first language^^) I only looked into serums while asking chatgpt (it knows my skin better than me lol) I did consider Innisfree gentle retinol and salicylic serum and some by me retinol for starters. I’m scared of purging so I’m looking for gentle retinol/retinal. I watched Natalie Oneill’s guide videos and convinced that i need to use retinol/retinal for closed comedons because i don’t want to use BHA or etc. Do you have any gentle retinol/retinal products for cc’s or from what I said? And thank you for your answer~

Like Paul said, you can absolutely use it. I was using at on my face as well before I switched to a retinoid :)

I use it on my neck and forehead too and I find it helps with fine lines but is not a very strong product, I would say more beginner friendly or sensitive skin friendly! I’m sensitive, oily and acne prone and never had any problems with using it that way!

What a coincidence, I was thinking about this product today! I just finished it and I loved to use it all over my face. Now I switched to Seoul1988 that if I remember well is %0.04, so double BOJ. I have sensitive mature skin.

Let us know how it goes, mine is finishing and I just released a pool to see what product I can buy to replace it! BoJ will be my safe product but I would like to try something stronger! Didn’t know about the Seoul1988, will search about it! My options were Celimax retinal or Numbuzin Retinal ..

That was my exact dilemma when finishing BOJ! If you want a genuine step up in strength from BOJ without wrecking your barrier, look closely at Seoul 1988. It uses 0.04% liposomal retinal—literally double BOJ's 0.02%—plus bakuchiol in a nourishing cream base. Between your two poll options, I haven't tried them personally so I will just speculated based on their formula: Numbuzin No.9 is very gentle and deeply nourishing, but it uses standard retinol (which requires two conversion steps in the skin, so it won’t feel stronger than BOJ). Celimax, on the other hand, combines 0.1% retinal with spicules (microscopic sponge needles)—fantastic for resilient expression lines on the forehead or smile lines, but way too aggressive for the delicate eye rim. But I think it may be very personal! Seoul 1988 sits right in that sweet spot: double the active potency of BOJ, but encapsulated in liposomes so your under-eyes stay calm and plump! I used for one week now, every other night and I'm planning to switch to every night if I don't notice any redness/dryness.

I think you sold me hahah will definitely buy it! The one you have is the one with fermented bean?!

M

Yes, that’s the one! It’s the K-SECRET Seoul 1988 Serum: Retinal Liposome 2% + Black Rice (which features the fermented bean / soybean extract in the formula). they often call it "Retinal Liposome 2%," but that means 2% liposomal complex, which equates to 0.04% pure active Retinal—so literally double the 0.02% in BOJ! Since your profile says oily, the texture should work nicely for you too; it’s nourishing and spreads easily without feeling heavy or greasy. Can’t wait to hear how it works out for you! 💕

@Mariacasino I’ve read all of your comments with Viivi and learned so much lol^^ Can I use 1988 retinal serum you mentioned after I finished BoJ serum months later for my closed comedons if BoJ won’t work on them? (I’m 23, I only want to use it for my cc’s~)

@ece_skz thanks you're so sweet! 💕 I've learned things by trying slowly on my sensitive skin, so be patient! Also, to see efficacy, you don't need to experience irritation nor dryness. At 23 with dry skin, you don’t need aggressive anti-aging acids or harsh peels that strip your barrier; you just need steady, optimized follicular turnover. If BoJ does little for you and you don't see side effects, you can move on increasing the concentration with another product. Retinal should work for your purpose, but since every skin is different, if it doesn't work for you, you could try another active ingredient, like a gentle LHA or azelaic acid.

@ece_skz I am now using Tazarotene, which is amazing, but the adjustment period was rough :D I am 38 though, so Retinal wasn't as potent anymore, even though I loved using it for years. I am still using Scinic Cicanoid Retinal cream ob my neck

Absolutely! I use it on my whole face once a week and also use a stronger serum once a week.

Yes, it's been my go-to retinal product for my entire face for almost a year now. I prefer having one product for the entire face. Generally if it's safe to use around the eye area, then it can be used around the face. It's been working really well for me ❤️

I think it's a good idea @ece_skz My face couldnt tolerate any retinol that I tried but it did well with Retinal straight away including around my eyes 😌 Good luck with your retinal journey!
