Best sunscreen recommendations for sensitive skin? Go!
I didn't wait long enough to re-incorporate sunscreen during Barrier Rx and thought I'd be safe with Round Lab Birch Juice Mild Up UVLock Sunscreen SPF50+ Broad Spectrum...only to discover that it contained Vitamin C. 🥵 What are your safe go-to sunscreens with the mildest ingredients when your skin is feeling reactive?

I have five recommendations. My husband has sensitive skin and these are his favorites (the difference is which one is on sale 😆): 1. SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-FIT Sun Serum (around $8.00 YesStyle. For all YesStyle purchases, be sure to use CYOUNG0 coupon code) 2. Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturizing Sun Serum SPF 50 (Yami or Olive Young) 3. Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel SPF50+ PA++++ (Stylevana, Yami) 4. Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Pure Mineral Relief Daily Sunscreen (YesStyle, Olive Young, Stylevana) 5.Torriden DIVE IN Mild Sun Cream 80ml (Olive Young Global, Skinseoul) All the best, @hazelmoss 😊
@Annie Ah, I have a few of these in my stash. Thanks! (LOL, that is also how I choose between some brands.)
I have super sensitive/reactive skin too, and when my barrier is really compromised I have to be VERY careful with sunscreen 😭 These would be my picks: 1. AESTURA Derma UV365 Barrier Hydro Mineral SPF50+ This would probably be my first recommendation. My skin generally does really well with Aestura whenever my barrier is struggling. It’s mineral and fragrance-free, and has ceramides + allantoin, so I really like the formula for those “my skin hates everything” periods. 2. Avène Mineral Fluid SPF50+ I actually keep this one specifically for situations when my skin is so reactive that I need to use a mineral sunscreen. My skin tolerates it really well, BUT the white cast is pretty intense and it’s honestly difficult to spread 😭 Definitely not the most cosmetically elegant sunscreen, but when my barrier is angry I care more about my skin tolerating it. 3. Avène Kids SPF50+ I’d also look at their kids sunscreen! I honestly don’t see “for kids” as a downside when you’re specifically looking for something for extremely sensitive skin. It’s made with sensitive children’s skin in mind and can be a nice option for both face and body. 4. ETUDE SoonJung Director’s Mineral Filter Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ Another one I really like when my skin is sensitive. SoonJung is one of those lines I tend to trust when I want to keep things simple, and this one is a mineral sunscreen made with sensitive skin in mind. It’s a really nice option if your barrier is reactive and you’re trying to avoid chemical/organic filters. Like most mineral sunscreens though, I’d expect some white cast compared with something like SKIN1004 or iUNIK. 5. EltaMD UV Pure SPF47 Another one I’d consider if you want to stick with mineral filters. It’s fragrance-free and designed for sensitive skin. Just a heads-up since you mentioned vitamin C — it does contain ascorbyl palmitate, so I’d keep that in mind if you’re avoiding all vitamin C derivatives right now. 6. La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+ SPF50 This one makes a lot of sense if your main issue is a compromised barrier because you’re basically getting Cicaplast barrier support + SPF. It has panthenol and madecassoside. It isn’t mineral though, so I’d probably choose one of the options above first if chemical/organic filters are currently stinging your skin. 7. Zipiderm EGF Skin Barrier Sun Cream SPF50+ I really like the ingredient list of this one for barrier support — ceramides, cholesterol, ectoin, panthenol, squalane, HA, etc. It uses organic filters, so again, I’d save this for if your skin can tolerate those right now. 8. SKIN1004 Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum SPF50+ One of my picks for sensitive skin in general. It’s lightweight and hydrating with centella, panthenol and HA. I’d put it more in the “sensitive everyday skin” category rather than my first SOS choice when my barrier is actively freaking out. 9. iUNIK Centella Calming Daily Sun Water SPF50+ Another nice lightweight option with centella, panthenol, allantoin and HA. Same as SKIN1004 — I’d recommend it for sensitive skin, but if literally everything is stinging right now, I’d start with one of the simpler mineral options first. Also definitely patch test! When my barrier is really damaged, I’ve found that even products my skin would normally tolerate can suddenly sting. 😭
@Veky Thank you! I have a few of these too and will patch test.
