Centella Water Alcohol-Free Toner
COSRX
A Hydrating Toner for ALL SKIN TYPES πΈ
Centella Water Alcohol-Free Toner falls in the category of "Friendzone to Lover." Its one of the first K-Beauty toners I purchased last spring. It's fantastic, low-count ingredient list and soothing properties created the draw:
Water, Centella Asiatica Leaf Water, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Betaine, Panthenol, Allantoin, Ethyl Hexanediol, Sodium Hyaluronate.
But I ended up sleeping on this toner because it didn't feel hydrating enough. The culprit -- the packaging!
It comes in a spray bottle, which is smart packaging for sensitive skin because it reduces mechanical friction. However, this led to under-dosing because I'm not a big fan of burst spray mechanisms. So, my face felt thirsty after using it because I wasn't layering enough.
To avoid waste, I repurposed the toner for my body. The beauty of this simple toner didn't reveal itself until near the end when I had to unscrew the cap and pour it onto my hands to get the last of it out.
Consider my eyes opened! In small handfuls, layered 2 or 3 times, this toner sits up there with Etude's SoonJung pH 5.5 Relief Toner. Beautiful hydration, soothing extracts, and zero irritation: my rubric for what I call "neutral" products. Not because they aren't accomplishing anything, but because they provoke zero reaction. My skin felt cool, calm, and my cheeks got that coveted jelly bounce. Wow. I wish I had decanted this baby and gotten to spend more time with it on my face.
Lesson learned -- sometimes it's the packaging, not the product.
What skin types benefit from this toner?
π¦ All sensitive types
π’οΈ Oily
π Combo
π΅ Dry
πΈ Normal
π Acne-prone
π Dermatitis-prone
π§ Barrier-damaged
πͺ Skincare routines containing many actives may benefit from a "neutral" product
How can I get away recommending it to all of these groups? It's in the layering.
This alcohol-free, centella asiatica leaf water is gentle on skin and works alongside a first class barrier-loving ingredient team. It's a fantastic toner for acne-prone skin, especially those of us who fall in the combo to oily camp. It's suitable for sensitive and oily skin by leaving out drying alcohol and maintaining a low pH. Dry skin folks who layer the toner multiple times or pair it with a generously hydrating serum will love this.
Acne and oil control: π¦
In this community, we've discussed tackling acne and oil control through a hydration vehicle rather than through barrier-irritating acids. Sebum and acne are signals of barrier stress. This toner provides a perfect example of how to hydrate the barrier in a way that soothes and calms acne-inflamed skin and alleviate oil overproduction with a light touch.
βπ» Save acne and sebum control for the cleansing and/or serum step
βπ» Target acne and oil overproduction sideways by treating the barrier with minimal all-star skin conditioners and humectants
βπ» Encourages skin to create its own hyaluronic acid with one simple plant extract -- not dozens!
βπ» The watery texture feels light on oily skin, not sticky
βπ» It doesn't contain ingredients that will cause that greasy high-gloss finish we all hate
βπ» It won't clog pores or create comedones*
βπ» It will play nicely with the additional actives and spot treatments that are layered on top.
π The key to being a multi-skin type solution: layers!
If you don't feel like you're getting enough, skip the spray mechanism.
π« either pour it into your hands and pat it into your skin
π· create your own toner pads
You'll like it or you'll love it. Those are the only two options. πΈ
