Black Rice 5 Ceramide Barrier Moisturizing Cream

Skin Profile: Sensitive, dry-leaning in a cold/dry Nordic climate 🇸🇪

​Why I bought it:

I originally picked this up during this past winter when I felt my skin barrier was partially compromised. I worked hard to repair my barrier over the cold months, and this became my go-to 'passpartout' (fail-safe) cream whenever my skin was feeling extra sensitive or in need of gentle care.

​How I used it:

​Daytime: I rarely used it during the day. Layering lightweight hydrating serums, sunscreen, and my daily BB cream was plenty—adding this cream in between felt unnecessary and a bit too much layering for day-to-day. I only used it during the day on 100% stay-at-home days.

​Nighttime: I mostly used it as a final sealing step in the evening after my active serums to lock everything in.

​The Results & Why it's a 4/5 for me:

​The Good: It’s a textbook 'basic' cream in the best way—lightweight, gentle, and fragrance-free with zero irritants or strong actives. In the morning, my skin always felt hydrated without feeling heavy or suffocated.

​The Catch (Occlusion Level): It offers a medium level of occlusion. Living in Sweden's dry climate, I suffer from high transepidermal water loss (TEWL) overnight. On harsher winter nights, this cream alone wasn't quite heavy or occlusive enough to seal in maximum moisture on its own—I needed richer balms for that.

​Verdict:

It’s a solid, affordable, well-formulated barrier cream that does exactly what a basic cream should do. However, because it didn't transform my skin dramatically and there are so many similar ceramide creams on the K-beauty market, I won't immediately repurchase. It’s a reliable basic staple to keep in mind, and I might return to it in the future if other creams don't meet my needs! 🌾✨
