Skincare Habits: Let's talk about the post-skincare shower struggle! 🧴🚿👀
Be honest, beauties… we have all been there. You just finished your full, intentional beauty routine, locked in your skin barrier, and suddenly realized… you forgot to take a shower. 🤦🏻♀️
Before you panic and watch your entire routine melt away down the drain, here is a guide on how to protect your face and save your glow.
🛡️ Immediate Barrier Protection
- Keep your back to the water: Never face the showerhead directly. Keep your face completely out of the direct water stream to avoid washing off your hard work.
- Turn down the heat: Keep it strictly lukewarm. Hot steam triggers sweat and opens up your skin, which will instantly break down and melt away your serums.
- Keep it short: Make it a brief shower to reduce the humidity and steam buildup in your bathroom.
- Blot, don't rub: Keep a dry washcloth right outside the shower door. If stray water droplets get on your face, gently blot your skin dry—never rub!
🧼 The Post-Shower Skin Check
How you handle your skin after the shower depends entirely on the clock and how much time your products had to absorb:
- Under 30 minutes ago: Your products didn't have enough time to sink in. The steam likely ruined your skin barrier. Skip the cleanser, but rinse your face with lukewarm water and re-do your routine.
- Over 30 minutes ago: Good news! Your active serums have already safely absorbed. However, your surface layer (like your moisturizer) has likely degraded. Once you step out, apply a fresh, light layer of moisture barrier cream to lock that hydration back in.
What is your go-to trick when you accidentally mess up your routine order, or are you team "wash it all off and start over"?

@Annie I am definitely a team "start over". I just did this the other morning, literally. I got up and splashed water on my face, put on toner, then went and did my work out. I hopped in shower to rinse off after work out and accidentally wiped my face with was rag (softly) then remembered I had already put toner on, so had to start over! I also add a couple layers of tone on occasion, not always.
