Scalp Gua Sha: My Secret to Morning Tension Relief 🪮✨

As you can probably tell, I am a massive Gua Sha fan. We talk a lot about facial skincare here, but we rarely talk about where a lot of our facial tension, morning puffiness, and stress actually live: our scalp.
If you wake up with tight jaws, tension headaches, or just feel foggy in the morning, running targeted massage tools through your hair is the ultimate scalp health unlock. I’ve been using a Sandalwood Meridian Comb and a Jade Gua Sha Comb, and the difference in how light my head feels afterward is amazing.
Here is how I use them to release tension and boost circulation:

🪮 Tool 1: The Sandalwood Meridian Massager

This thick, multi-pronged wooden tool is designed specifically for targeting meridian pressure points. Because it’s made of natural wood, it’s completely anti-static and doesn't snag the hair.

  • How to use it: I start at the very front hairline and press the smooth, rounded prongs firmly into the scalp. Using medium-to-firm pressure, I scrape slowly from the forehead all the way over the crown of my head down to the base of my skull.
  • The Sweet Spot: Pay extra attention to the occipital ridge (the notch where your skull meets your neck). Use the wavy edge of the wooden handle to firmly press and massage this area in small circles to instantly melt away neck tension.

🟢 Tool 2: The Jade Gua Sha Comb

While the wood tool is great for deep tissue pressure, this natural stone comb provides a completely different experience because it holds temperature.

  • The Cooling Trick: I love keeping my jade comb in the fridge. The cold stone is incredible if you suffer from morning sinus pressure or headaches.
  • How to use it: I use lighter pressure with this one, starting right above the ears at the temples. I make small, gentle zigzag motions with the teeth of the comb, working my way upward and backward toward the crown. The cool stone constricts blood vessels and instantly calms down any throbbing or stress.

💡 Quick Routine Tips

  • No oil needed: Unlike facial Gua Sha, you can do this completely dry on clean hair without messing up your style.
  • Take your time: Slow, deliberate strokes work much better than fast, frantic combing. Aim for about 5–10 strokes per section.
